Mean path length inside nonscattering refractive objects

چکیده
It was recently argued that the geometric optics mean path length of rays inside a refractive object under Lambertian illumination is independent scattering strength medium [Savo et al., Science 358, 765 (2017)]. We here show it is, in fact, different case zero scattering. uncover and explain role trapped ray trajectories creating this unexpected discontinuity from to low This allows us derive alternative analytic results for simple shapes. believe work provides fresh perspective on study objects, with possible applications in, example, by large particles or design optical systems.

متن کاملSofic Mean Length
Given a length function L on the R-modules of a unital ring R, for any sofic group Γ, we define a mean length for every locally L-finite RΓ-module relative to a bigger RΓ-module. We establish an addition formula for the mean length. We give two applications. The first one shows that for any unital left Noetherian ring R, RΓ is stably direct finite. The second one shows that for any ZΓ-module M,...
متن کاملShortest Path Problem with Gamma Probability Distribution Arc Length
We propose a dynamic program to find the shortest path in a network having gamma probability distributions as arc lengths. Two operators of sum and comparison need to be adapted for the proposed dynamic program. Convolution approach is used to sum two gamma probability distributions being employed in the dynamic program.
متن کاملVirtual Energy Based Secure and Mean Path Length Based Energy Efficient Framework (VEMPL) for WSN
Designing a secure and energy efficient wireless sensor network is a confronting problem as the sensors are resource limited devices. Moreover it also becomes important to ensure that the false data injected into the network by malicious node is not perceived as accurate data to maintain the authenticity and integrity of network. In this paper we have proposed Virtual Energy based secure and Me...
متن کاملLength Dependent Thermal Conductivity Measurements Yield Phonon Mean Free Path Spectra in Nanostructures
Thermal conductivity measurements over variable lengths on nanostructures such as nanowires provide important information about the mean free paths (MFPs) of the phonons responsible for heat conduction. However, nearly all of these measurements have been interpreted using an average MFP even though phonons in many crystals possess a broad MFP spectrum. Here, we present a reconstruction method t...
